What We Do

ACORD Rwanda is an established National non governmental organization known as Association for Cooperation and Research in Development -Rwanda, “ACORD-RWANDA ” in short, governed by its Statutes and subject to the provisions of the Law No 04/2012 of 17 February 2012 governing the organisation and the functioning of national non-governmental organizations.

OUR MISSION is to engage communities in the construction of a just and equitable society where people coexist in peace and dignity, and become responsible for their own development.

The purpose of the Organization is to strengthen the livelihoods of the population, in particular marginalised and vulnerable groups, and their capacity in achieving inclusive and sustainable livelihoods through resilient ecosystems, productive employment, and entrepreneurship.

The specific objectives are:

  • Address the issue of food sovereignty and security through resilient ecosystems, Inclusive Employment and Improved Farmers’ Skills.
  • Address the issue of gender inequality and women’s empowerement through facilitating of their access to economic opportunities, and justice, fighting gender based violence and supporting the adoption and implementation of social and economic gender sensitive policies and reforms.
  • Address the need to integrate health and nutrition in development work, given the correlation between access to resources, size of family, and malnutrition.
  • Address the issue of conflicts over land and resources and the incidence of agricultural and land policies and reforms
  • Supporting the enterpreneursihip of young people in agricultural and non agricultural areas.

The main strategies to achieve these objectives are especially through the following:

  • Critical analysis of economic development policies (agricultural, land, Trade and Industry, gender, and health) , Policy Research and Advocacy
  • The transfer of technical knowledge for specific value chains and sectors
  • The stimulation of the structuring of autonomous associations of farmers towards a movement of advocacy and defense of peasant interests,
  • The support to the realization of programs initiated by the populations themselves
  • Support for initiatives through various services such as: research, project studies, negotiations, administrative procedures, training, management consulting, legal support, technical support, fundraising... Support farmers association to expand their business market
  • The partnership with the government, the local and international civil society, the private sector, the media, the academicians
